Review Summary

Controversial filmmaker Jennifer Montgomery first made her mark with a 1995 autobiographical drama, Art for Teachers of Children, which focused on her experiences as a teenager posing for nude photographs for a boarding school teacher who was nabbed by the authorities on pornography charges. Montgomery's strident defense of freedom of artistic expression continues with this experimental film that combines politics and arts. Jenny Bass plays Jennifer Gould, a journalist who made waves in 1994 with her daring interview of ardent Russian right-wing nationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky (Lev Shekhtman) for Playboy magazine. The dialogue is taken directly from the interview. In the second half of the film, the focus shifts from politics to sex; the genre from non-fiction to fiction; and the mode from scripted to improvisation. Masha (Marina Shterenberg) plays an erotically adventuresome Russian woman with a bad temper who toys mercilessly with her hapless lover, Vitali (Vitaliy Baganov). ~ Michael Betzold, All Movie Guide
